Caring For Your Board

You're new board is made from natural wood and needs special care to keep looking its best.

To clean your board, wipe with a damp dish cloth or paper towel using a mild dish detergent. Oil your board when it begins to show signs of drying out. If you have just cleaned it, allow your board to fully dry before oiling.  Use a food grade mineral oil or butcher block oil and follow the directions on the bottle. These can be found at stores like Home Hardware or Canadian Tire.

  • Do not submerge your board in water.
  • Do not use abrasive materials to clean your board.
  • Do not place your board in direct sunlight or over direct heat.
  • Do not use olive or vegetable oils on your board. These will go rancid.
As your board ages, it may begin to show signs of wear or begin to feel a little rough. To get it looking new again, you can lightly sand your board using 320 or 400 grit sand paper.  Always sand your board in the same direction as the wood grain. Oil your board again when you are finished sanding.
